Social Justice
The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Kern County partners with several local non-profit organizations in our quest for social justice. You've most likely seen us in the community, volunteering our time at local events. Sometimes we may have our own booth, like at the annual Bakersfield LGBTQ Pride Festival. And other times we may be spread out at various organizations' booths, like at the annual Kern County Women's March. As individuals and as an organization, we fight for social justice on a daily basis.
We are also partners with KWESI
A Message of Hope
While the presence of ICE in Bakersfield poses challenges, it also provides an opportunity for us to reaffirm our commitment to justice, compassion, and equity. At UUFKC, we believe that through collective action and unwavering love, we can support families, heal communities, and strive toward a world where every person feels safe and valued.
Let us continue to be a source of hope and resilience in the face of these trials, standing together as a united and loving community.

Today was more than just a day off—it’s a day to honor one of our nation’s most influential leaders, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
This past Sunday, our minister, Tony Lee, delivered a heartfelt sermon reflecting on his experiences during the Civil Rights Movement, inspiring us all to continue the work of justice and equality. Today, he joined members of our congregation in Bakersfield’s annual MLK March, standing together in solidarity and hope.
For those who may feel uncertain about the future, let us find strength in Dr. King’s timeless words:
“We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
