Reverend Summer Albayati-Krikeche joined us as our minister in August of 2013. She serves as our minister half-time.
Summer holds a Master of Divinity from Claremont School of Theology, a Master of Arts in Education, emphasizing in psychology, from Pepperdine University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Social-Psychology from the University of California, Irvine.
She recently served as the Ministerial Intern at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Verdugo Hills, where she was able to energize the congregation into connecting with the surrounding community through justice work and church programs, expand their vision of worship, and help guide them into providing pastoral care for one another.
Prior to this, Summer served as Chaplain Intern at Hoag Hospital, Newport Beach, where she specialized in palliative care and presented on multiculturalism to medical personnel.
While in seminary, Summer served as the Youth Advisor at Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church in Costa Mesa, focusing on strengthening a Unitarian Universalist identity and incorporating the youth into worship and social justice activities. She also served as Student Minister for the Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry- CA (UULM-CA), focusing on water justice and recruiting congregations to collaborate with UULM on various justice issues. During the same period, she founded a nonprofit, Orphan Whispers, intended to serve the material and educational needs of orphans in Iraq.
Prior to entering ministry, Summer worked in the field of education, serving communities of historically underserved minorities in special and gifted education, grant writing and teacher training.
Summer is known for her percussion and vocal gifts. She has performed with her family since the age of 12 in various venues, and led the worship-oriented Claremont School of Theology drumming group.
Summer, her husband Yassine, and son Devin enjoy riding bikes to the beach, picnics, hiking, and traveling together. Yassine is known for his cooking, so get ready for some rockin’ Moroccan cuisine!
