Rev. Denis Letourneau Paul, our Development Minister, is also a part-time home remodeler living in Modesto, California. He has worked as a home designer and builder, a hospice chaplain, and a street minister in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District. His ministry focuses on two intersections: spirituality and social justice, as well as congregation and community. His sermons tend to focus on the covenants we live by with one another in the congregation, with our loved ones and the wider world, and with that which each of us sees as the Divine.
Two weekends per month, Rev. Denis joins us in Bakersfield. He preaches once or twice a month, and works with the Board of Trustees and the other committees of the fellowship as we prepare to hire a half-time minister next year.

Dr. Liora Gubkin Malicdem
Dr. Liora Gubkin Malicdem, our Coordinator of Outreach Ministry, is also a professor of Religion at CSU Bakersfield and a UU certificate studies student at Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley. As such, she often speaks about beliefs and practices from different world religions when she is at the pulpit. In just this past year, Liora has preached on the Muslim holy month of Ramadan; the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism; Jewish, Christian and post-Christian feminist theology; and Unitarian Universalist perspectives on Jesus of Nazareth.
She brings to the congregation a vision of deepening our connections between worship, religious education and social justice, with particular attention to making connections between the fellowship and the wider community through direct relationships, social action, and charitable service.
