Our Fellowship values opportunities to contribute to the social justice and wellbeing of the community. Some of our activities include weekly collections for Golden Empire Gleaners, seasonal clothing drives for the Bakersfield Homeless Shelter, and we participate in the Bakersfield Gay Pride Festival.
We have an active Social Justice Committee. For more information on the Social Justice Committee’s work, visit our Social Justice page.
We also participate in larger initiatives with other fellowships – both UU and interfaith:
Standing on the Side of Love
Standing on the Side of Love is a public advocacy campaign, initiated by the Unitarian Universalist Association in 2009, to promote respect for the inherent worth and dignity of every person. We stand with all who believe that no person should be dehumanized through acts of exclusion, oppression, or violence. Focus issues include LGBTQ, Immigration, and anti-Muslim discrimination. Standing on the Side of Love continues the prophetic tradition of working for healing in a broken world.
Faith in Action
We support the local interfaith social justice organization, Faith in Action. Our Social Justice Committee collaborates actively with their efforts.
