Guest at Your Table
November 25, 2018 - January 13, 2019
Guest at Your Table, the major fundraising effort of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), was introduced at our service on Sunday, November 25th. Guest at Your Table is UUSC’s annual intergenerational program to raise support for, and awareness about, key human rights issues. UUSC works with over 75 grassroots partners in more than 25 countries around the world who confront unjust power structures and mobilize to challenge oppressive policies. The work of UUSC is grounded in the belief that all people have inherent power and dignity.
Each year, the Guest at Your Table program is an opportunity to celebrate grassroots partnerships, support human rights, and learn about just four of the individuals – the “guests” in Guest at Your Table – who work with and/or benefit from the work of the UUSC partners. Donations to Guest at Your Table help UUSC and their partners respond to the extraordinary human rights challenges of today, address root causes of injustice, and build capacity to respond to future crises.
Each family is invited to bring home a Guest Box to place on their dining table. With each meal, place money (real or virtual) in the box that would be spent to feed a guest. In late December and early January, the monies from the boxes will be collected and forwarded to the UUSC so that they can continue their work around the globe. More information about Guest at Your Table and the works of the UUSC is available on the UUSC website, http://www.uusc.org/guest and in the materials that will be on the table in the back of the chapel.
Guest boxes or envelopes will be collected on Sunday, December 30th, January 6th, and January 13th. Donations in the form of a check are preferred, and checks should be made to UUSC, not to the Fellowship. A donation of $125 or more will be matched dollar for dollar by the UU Congregation of Shelter Rock in Manhasset, NY. For more information, contact Pat Berthold.
