This month’s UUFKC theme for exploration is “Evil.” Now this is a word with some gravitas. Evil lives up to its infamy when you look up the definition: “the force in nature that governs and gives rise to wickedness and sin” (Dictionary.com). Interesting. But what is wickedness? What is sin? What is this force of nature, and where does it reside?
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn wrote in The Gulag Archipelago that “the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?” To Solzhenitsyn, no one is without this line, this duality within; no one is without a daily, moment-by-moment choice to do good or ill.
If this is true, how then shall we live? Join us this month as we explore this and many more questions together. Come. Learn. Share.
